One look at this plant and you may just be able to guess its name before knowing it. Aphelandra squarrosa, more commonly known as the Zebra Plant, is an interesting shrub with glossy emerald green leaves, identified easily by the striking contrast of the creamy yellowish-white stripes that cover them. Native to the Atlantic Forests of Brazil, this eccentric plant has a preference for warm climates, lots of indirect sunlight and consistent moisture. Tropical and vibrant, the Zebra Plant makes for a gorgeous house plant, lively and quirky in comparison to most other house shrubs. When in bloom, the plant grows a few occasional golden flower bracts that sprout up from the center of the leaves, adding to the refreshing aesthetics of the plant. The Zebra Plant can be found here at Zoo Miami, popping up in several areas of Amazon & Beyond.
