Start: April 22, 2017 - 10:00am
End: April 23, 2017 - 4:00pm
Party for the Planet is Zoo Miami’s annual Earth Day celebration! We will have lots of fun conservation-themed activities for the entire family as well as fun enrichment for our animals!
This year, we are also partnering with the Ramos Boys who are challenging fellow Miami students to help them save the Everglades! Helping out can be a way for kids and their families to get free admission on Saturday 4/22 as well as enjoy fun extras! Find out more at www.donate.zoomiami.org/ramosboys!
During Party for the Planet, guests can come free of charge if they donate a cellphone for our ECO-CELL recycling program. Not only will each person donating a cellphone enter the zoo for free on these two days, but they will also help save gorillas! Cell phones include coltan, a mineral extracted in the deep forests of Congo in central Africa, home to the world's endangered lowland gorillas. Fueled by the worldwide cell phone boom, Congo's out-of-control coltan mining business has in recent years led to a dramatic reduction of animal habitat and the rampant slaughter of great apes for the illegal bush-meat trade. By turning in your cell phone, we can hopefully reduce the need for additional coltan … and help protect the gorillas.
On Sunday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m. the Florida Youth Orchestra performs "Where The Wild Things Are" at the Sami Family Amphitheater.
Animal Enrichment Schedule
Watch as some of our animals tear into their Earth Day treats. Wild animals spend a large portion of their time searching for and consuming food. Here at the zoo their diets are provided and easily accessible. Therefore, keepers use enrichment like the paper maché items, coconuts, treat bags, etc. to promote natural foraging behaviors.
